The first Expert Meeting of the Family International Monitor

The first Expert Meeting of the Family International Monitor was held in Rome from 13 to 15 May.

Representatives of 12 Universities and Research Centres from Mexico, Benin, USA, Finland, Spain, Kenya, Italy, Chile, Qatar, Czech Republic and Lebanon met to start the work of the Observatory, born in December 2018 with the aim of implementing scientific research at international level on the concrete condition of families in different social, cultural and economic contexts.


In these days the group has started the work of the survey that will take place over a period of 3 years (2019-2021) and will be marked by the creation of two reports on family and relational poverty and family and economic poverty, fundamental guidelines that will guide all research on the subject.


The meeting allowed to share tools, methodologies, timing and operational methods for the collection of data for the preparation of national reports and a summary report. It was also an opportunity to share the communication and network activities of the Observatory, whose priority dissemination tool will be a newsletter.


In addition to Caritas Internationalis, representatives of the Laity, Family and Life Department, the ELFAC (European Large Families Confederation) and the FAFCE (Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe) also took part in the Meeting.


The Expert Meeting concluded with the Papal Audience on Wednesday, May 15, the day on which the International Day of the Family held every year by the United Nations also takes place. This year's theme is "Family and Climate Action: a focus on SDG13". The Holy Father, after greeting the participants at the Meeting, recalled the International Day of the Family with a tweet: Promoting the development of the #family means supporting the care of each person and of all creation. #ClimateAction.
