Weddings postponed because of the virus: that's who lost out, from floriculturists to restaurateurs.

Few people choose to get married with the restrictions imposed by the anti-Covid regulations.

"My love, I love you, but we have to postpone the wedding." What at any other time would only sound like an excuse in virus times becomes a dramatic truth. Not so much for the bride and groom, but for the whole economy surrounding the wedding.

Giving up the ceremony with its good side dish of invitations, wedding favors, guests, photographs, honeymoon is a difficult choice.

The numbers say that, after the lockdown, few have felt like doing intimate ceremonies with a few guests, forcing them to the mask, looking for a place outdoors. The bride and groom postpone, but they can catch up. What will not return are the millions of euros that went up in smoke, with all the consequences that will have to be faced and with the gigantic unknown of the future and the trend of the contagion curve.

An alarm goes off for the floriculture companies that, just in spring and summer, did the biggest business with cut flowers or flowering plants as decoration for the locations chosen for the photo shoots and the churches.

Two hundred million damages to the floriculturists for 70 thousand skipped weddings, and the obligation to send more than 400 varieties of stems to the waste. The chain of consequences is unstoppable: in some sectors, such as the wine sector, the catering industry is even the main marketing channel for turnover, just think that food expenditure outside the home before the Coronavirus emergency was equal to 35% of total consumption at the table of Italians. And if you think about how much wine is consumed at a wedding, it is clear that the social cost is a bloodletting.

And not only in the field of flowers, but for those who take care of photo shoots or prepare wedding lunches, those who make wedding dresses, and those who, finally, prepare departures for trips that are made only once in a lifetime.

To shake up the market someone has tried promotions, lowered prices, lengthened payment times, but the responses were not enthusiastic. And someone has also been forced to lay off to avoid losing workers who may have to do somersaults next year to satisfy requests. Because the problem is also this: there is the risk that all those who have postponed marry then all together, with great difficulty to fulfill the requests.
